America's 'Top 100 Family Campgrounds' Announced by ReserveAmerica

With the recent surge in camping popularity and as the Summer camping season is quickly approaching, ReserveAmerica, the United States' leading recreation reservation and campground management solutions provider, today released its second annual "Top 100 Family Campgrounds" listing, created to help consumers plan a trip to the great outdoors in America's greatest 'hidden gem' locations. The list was developed in part by park rangers, regional park management and campers who write testimonials, rate campgrounds and provide feedback throughout the year. Nearly 3,000 parks were reviewed and the final 100 campgrounds were chosen based on specific family friendly criteria ranging from educational programs and visitor centers to camping amenities and overall beauty and scenery. Popularity for camping is surging with a 73% increase in reservations on March 1, 2004, of which more than 60% of the reservations were made online at

Consumers looking for anything from a weekend retreat to an extended vacation are able to browse through more than 170,000 campsites, cabins, day use facilities, and picnic areas at and In a recent survey taken by more than 10,000 campers using the ReserveAmerica reservation systems and services, over 90% rated their experience as exceeding expectations.

To better understand the needs of the camping public, ReserveAmerica conducted an online survey of more than 100,000 campers. Some of the key findings include:

   *  59.6% believe 'park amenities and detailed campsite descriptions' are
      the most important items when reserving a camping trip.
   *  58.2% plan to camp three or more times throughout the year.
   *  87.4% agree that 'family bonding, fresh air and beautiful
      surroundings' are the most enjoyable part of camping.
   *  45% selected 'sitting by the campfire' as their favorite activity
      while camping.

The Top 100 Family Campgrounds were selected based on criteria requested by family campers including park amenities, stunning outdoor scenery, and educational facilities. The quality and availability of hot showers, laundry facilities, hiking trails, family beaches, radio-free zones, visitor centers, educational programs, children's events and location were also considered.
