Match.com and AOL Partner to Spread a Little More Love in the UK

Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - 01:00

AOL, the world's leading interactive services provider, and Match.com, a global leader in online dating, today announced a strategic partnership in the United Kingdom. Under the terms of the agreement, Match.com will be the exclusive co-branded paid online dating service on AOL in the UK, AOL.co.uk and Netscape.co.uk .

More than two million members in the UK access the AOL service through dial-up, broadband, mobile and interactive television. This new partnership with Match.com brings AOL's UK members together with one of the leading online personals services in the UK and extends a global partnership, which includes the United States.

Mindy Mount, Executive Vice President and co-Managing Director of AOL UK, said: "Match.com is a great brand to bring to our members, allowing us to offer them new and exciting services that further cement the role of the online world in people's daily lives."

The agreement further extends the relationship the two companies enjoy in the United States where Match.com has been the premier provider of personals for Love@AOL since April 2001.

"Our partnership with AOL is a significant milestone for Match.com internationally. With a member base of more than two million in the UK, we expect AOL to be a great partner in bringing a world class service to millions more singles," said Joe Cohen, Vice President International at Match.com.

He continued, "Partnering with AOL will play an essential role in further developing our business and brand awareness in the UK."

AOL will be building Match.com's functionality into its Dating area, as a quick and easy first stop for members who are looking for a date. In addition, the service will be promoted elsewhere on the Women channel, and on the Local Life and Men channels.

Josa Young, AOL UK's Head of Love, said: "Partnering with Match.com gives AOL members a comfortable environment to meet quality, like-minded singles. Our members can take control of their love life, and widen their options. You find out what you have in common at leisure, without having to haunt smoky bars. Use common sense and stick with our safety guidelines -- and you never know what new opportunities might be waiting online."
