Match.com Mother's Day Survey Finds That Single Men Tend to Date Women Just Like Their Mom

Monday, May 5, 2003 - 06:55

In a survey of more than 4,000 single men conducted by online dating site Match.com, 59% stated that they tend to date women who have qualities similar to those of their mother. In contrast, a survey of single women conducted last year just before Father's Day revealed that most single women do not tend to date men similar to their dads.

"It seems that mom is still a force to be reckoned with on the dating scene," said Trish McDermott, vice president of romance at Match.com. "The old adage used to be, watch how men treat their moms and that's how they'll treat you. What we didn't realize is that single men may be watching for someone who treats them just like dear old mom does."

With Mother's Day approaching, online dating on Match.com, which is fast, efficient, convenient and often a lot of fun, provides a valuable service to the nation's single moms. Busy single mothers can search for their matches any time of day or night and contact other eligible singles through Match.com's secure email system. And the more than 614,000 single moms with profiles posted on the Match.com site will have a lot of potential dates to choose from, as two-thirds of the single men on Match.com indicate that they are open to dating someone with children.
